She asked if the dog was mine; I said yes, happily, and even invited her to say hello. She set the food down, got back in her car\u2026 and didn\u2019t leave.<\/p>\n<p>A few minutes later, two police cars pulled up. The officers explained she\u2019d reported a \u201cstolen Golden Retriever\u201d at my address. They were respectful and quickly confirmed he was mine\u2014his collar tag listed my name and address.<\/p>\n<div class=\"in_article\"><\/div>\n<p>As the officers were preparing to leave, the driver returned in tears, insisting that \u201cpeople like me\u201d only own pit bulls and rottweilers, so the retriever couldn\u2019t possibly be mine. I let the police take it from there.<\/p>\n<p>My dinner was still warm, my dog was safe, and a few delivery credits even landed me a slice of carrot cake to end the evening.
