That broke whatever had locked up in my brain.<\/p>\n<p>I scooped the bag into the cab, gently as I could, wrapped the kittens in my spare flannel from behind the seat, and turned the heat on full blast. The dog leapt in after me without hesitation and curled up right next to the kittens like it had done this before.<\/p>\n<p><p>That day, I didn\u2019t make my delivery on time.<\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<p>Instead, I made a detour to the nearest vet clinic 45 miles off-route. The staff took over immediately, and by some miracle, two of the three kittens survived. They said the dog must\u2019ve followed the scent, maybe even tried to pull the bag out of the road before I came.<\/p>\n<div class=\"in_article\"><\/div>\n<p>I stayed at the clinic a while longer than I probably should\u2019ve.
